A partnership between the Allentown Health Bureau and local organizations will be providing free Narcan to the community starting this Friday. WDIY’s Sarit Laschinsky has the details.

Distributions will take place at the Allentown Health Bureau, 245 N. Sixth St. every Friday between Feb. 4 and Mar. 4 from 1 PM to 2 PM, or until supplies are gone. There are no residency requirements to receive Narcan supplies, and recovery support services will also be available on-site.

Naloxone is a medication which can reverse an opioid overdose by blocking the effects of opioids on the brain, and does not harm the person it is administered to.

Anyone who needs assistance finding treatment resources or providers, or funding for addiction treatment, is encouraged to call the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s national helpline at 1-800-662-4357.

The free and confidential service is available in English and Spanish, and is accessible 24/7, 365 days per year.

People can also text 717-216-0905 for assistance if they are not comfortable calling.
