WDIY's Top 10 Albums of September 2020

A new month means a new list of top 10 albums played on air at WDIY! Which of your favorites will stay on the list? What artists will climb their way to new heights on our roster? Scroll down or check out the slideshow to see who got the most spins for September 2020.

#10- Nick of Time by James Hunter Six was released on March 6, 2020. This is his fourth album under the band name James Hunter Six, but James Hunter himself has been performing and creating music since 1986 in Howlin' Wilf and the Vee-Jays.

#9- The Valley by the Texas-based singer/songwriter Charley Crockett came out on September 20th in 2019, and was recorded just one week before he underwent life-saving open-heart surgery in January 2019.

#8- i,i by Bon Iver jumped up one spot from its former 9th place from August. This is the fourth studio album by the American indie folk band. The band created the album to mimic fall (perfect for September) with i,i completing a seasonal cycle that began with For Emma, Forever Ago (2007) mimicking winter.

#7- Thrashing Thru the Passion is down from third place in August, but still maintains its placement in WDIY’s top 10 albums for this month. This is the seventh studio album by American indie rock band the Hold Steady, which was released on August 16, 2019. This album marks the return to the line-up of keyboardist Franz Nicolay, who had left the group in 2008.

#6- Look Long is the 15th album by American folk rock duo Indigo Girls. The album was originally due to be released on April 24 of 2020 but was delayed until May 22. Corresponding tour dates for the album were postponed due to the pandemic but they performed weeklylive-stream concerts online to raise money for charity. The duo met in elementary school and started performing together in high school in Georgia.

#5- Twelfth by The Old 97’s was released on August 21, 2020 as an homage to the late Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach. Lead singer Rhett Miller bargained and signed deals to use Staubach’s likeness for the album cover to pay tribute to his childhood icon.

#4-  XOXO by The Jayhawks slipped two spots down from #2 in August, but still falls in the top 5 albums for September. This album was released on July 10, 2020, and is their 11th album to date.

#3- The Land That Time Forgot climbed up one place from last month to stay on the list of top 10 albums for WDIY this month. This album was released on May 15th, 2020 from California native Chuck Prophet.

#2- Good Souls Better Angels by Lucinda Williams is up four slots from the previous month’s rankings. She released her new album on April 24, 2020. It was originally announced in February along with the track "Man Without a Soul,” a critique of Donald Trump.

#1- Rough and Rowdy Ways by Bob Dylan maintains the first place position for the second month in a row! Dylan’s 39th album was released on June 19, 2020.
