Wildlands Conservancy’s summer camp offers summer fun at our Dorothy Rider Pool Wildlife Sanctuary in Emmaus, Pennsylvania.

Located in the Lehigh Valley, Dorothy Rider Pool Wildlife Sanctuary is generally a convenient 10-15 minutes from Allentown and Macungie, 25 minutes from Bethlehem, as well as 30 minutes from Easton.

On December 4, 1956, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins descend on Sun Studio in Memphis. What follows is one of the greatest impromptu jam sessions in music history. Guided by visionary producer Sam Phillips—the “Father of Rock ‘n’ Roll”—the night crackles with soaring music while careers hang in the balance. Featuring over 20 chart-topping hits including “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Great Balls of Fire,” and “I Walk the Line,” this is a toe-tapping celebration of friendship, rivalry, and a night that ignites a revolution. A family-friendly musical celebration suitable for all ages.

The Atlanta Rhythm Section... ARS... In the annals of rock and roll, where do they fit? They put out 15 albums of excellent original material, and consistently put on entertaining live shows-both of which helped establish a broad if not huge fan base. They had some big hits and have been a major player in the Southern Rock scene. But is that the whole story? In some circles, maybe. But for those who've really gotten to know their music over the years, there's a lot more to the story.

ARS was paired with contemporaries Lynyrd Skynyrd as the successors to the Allman Brothers - carrying the mantle of "Southern Rock" in the late 70s. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, it may have made sense at the time. But performing songs that were more musically diverse and having hits that had a softer, pop sound, the "Southern Rock" label was a mixed blessing and many of their unique musical accomplishments became lost in a genre that has lived on to this day-but never really fit ARS.

They weren't out to be rock and roll stars - they were accomplished studio musicians working as a group. They were said to be more influenced by music coming out of England than other music in the South. They shared musical stylings with the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac - both in the quality of songwriting and recorded performances. They were excellent musicians who tried to stretch themselves - think Steely Dan or Little Feat. In many ways, these associations make as much or more sense than any grouping with their Southern Rock kindred.

But the music of ARS only reached a mass audience on a couple of occasions. The result: an outstanding song catalog and the talented men responsible for it have been largely overlooked. When those songs are heard, and those talents recognized, the case can be made that ARS are the epitome of all the good things that the phrase "classic rock" implies.

Paddle and pedal your way into Summer on our guided adventure: canoe, kayak, paddleboard, and bike the metro-wilderness reaches of the Lehigh River in the Lehigh Valley, including whitewater rafting through the Lehigh Gorge in the Poconos. Sojourners are treated to scenic views, visits from resident wildlife, and a shared appreciation for the lifeblood of our region — our mighty and beloved Lehigh River!

Each day boasts a different get-outdoors adventure on the water with unique views and experiences: Day 1 – Sand Island to Rt. 33, Boat Launch, Easton; Day 2 – Walnutport to Weissport; Day 3 – Drakes Creek to Glen Onoko. This year’s river adventure includes educational programming from our neighbors in conservation and environmental education, camping at various parks, and special events.

As the keyboardist for the legendary Boston band and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame members, The Cars, Greg Hawkes forged the sound of rock’s New Wave. Pioneering and pushing the limits of technology and sequencing in the late 70s and through the 80s, Greg cemented the synthesizer's place in rock and pop music, and his contribution has influenced countless artists since. Along with achieving Rock & Roll Hall of Fame status and massive commercial success with The Cars, Greg has been a sought-after session and touring musician, and has worked with the likes of Paul McCartney, Todd Rundgren, and The Turtles.

In 2016, Greg collaborated with the acclaimed Boston band Eddie Japan to produce their 2017 album Golden Age. This eventually led to Greg and the band joining forces to create a night of music by The Cars featuring a set list curated by Greg. Since 2019, Greg Hawkes with Eddie Japan Performing the Music of The Cars has been thrilling audiences across the Northeast with an energetic show that includes hits and deeper cuts from The Cars songbook, along with special selections relating to Greg’s amazing musical career.
