The Allentown Health Bureau will be offering free syphilis tests on the next two Wednesdays, as state officials have identified that rates of the sexually transmitted infection are on the rise across Pennsylvania. WDIY's Sarit Laschinsky has more.

Testing will take place on Jan. 26 and Feb. 2 from 4 PM to 6 PM at the bureau, located at 245 N. Sixth St. No appointment is necessary, and testing is confidential.

There were 76 confirmed cases of syphilis in Allentown in 2021, spread throughout every zip code in the city, and if left untreated the infection can pose serious health issues, especially for pregnant women and their unborn children.

The AHB also offers free treatment to any person who tests positive for syphilis, regardless of where they live.
