WDIY's Top 10 Albums of October 2021

As the holiday season looms, let's take a look back at what was on rotation the most at WDIY in the month of October. If you want to see your favorite among the ranks, tune in to WDIY and don’t forget to leave suggestions for our on-air hosts!

#10- Jump For Joy by Gary Louris was released on June 4th, 2021. This the second full-length solo studio album for The Jayhawks frontman. This comes 13 years after his first solo album, and all of the songs were composed between 2009 and 2018.

#9- Electro Melodier by Son Volt was released on July 30th, 2021. The American rock band formed in 1994 and has been a staple of the alternative country rock movement of the 1990s.

#8- In The Blossom by Pokey LaFarge was released on September 10th, 2021 from Pokey LaFarge, otherwise known as Andrew Heissler. LaFarge’s main musical inspirations are hot swing, early jazz and ragtime blues.

#7- My Bluegrass Heart by Béla Fleck also came out on September 10th, 2021. The innovative and proficient banjo player Béla has said this album is the third installment of a trilogy of albums, starting with the release of Drive in 1988.

#6- Hearts Town by The War and Treaty has been on and off WDIY’s top 10 list for a while now, showing up in February 2021 and maintaining rank ever since. It was released on September 25, 2020 by husband and wife duo Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Blount.

#5- A Little More Time with Reigning Sound by Reigning Sound was released on May 21, 2021 from the American rock and roll band from Tennessee. What started as a garage punk band in 2001 has matured into the band we know and love today.

#4- J.T. by Steve Earle & The Dukes held our number one spot on air and in our hearts back in May and June, and seems to still be a tried and true favorite as the weather cools. It was released on January 4, 2021.

#3- Today We’re The Greatest by Middle Kids first showed up back on June’s shortlist and has maintained status at WDIY ever since. This is only the second studio album released by the Australian alternative-indie rock band. It dropped on March 19th, 2021.

#2- Wary + Strange by Amythyst Kiah was released on June 18, 2021. Amythyst has spent her music career working solo and reclaiming blues, folk, and old-timey tunes under her queer black experience. Her debut album is heavily experimental and hard-hitting.

#1- Native Sons by Los Angeles natives Los Lobos was released on July 30, 2021. The foundation of the band has been around since 1973, influencing multiple major music genres and releasing 17 albums between now and then.
