WDIY's Top 10 Albums of January 2021

2021 at WDIY kicked off with some new favorites and old classics on-air for our listeners. Check out the full list below to see which artists fought their way into 2021, which ones got left behind, and who the new faces are in our monthly line-up!

#10- Getting Into Knives is The Mountain Goats’ 19th studio album and was released on October 23, 2020. The album was recorded weeks before quarantine lockdown began in Memphis, and while the record doesn’t have a designated concept, it deals loosely with human achievement and personal fulfillment. 

#9- Good Souls Better Angels by Lucinda Williams is also back in the ranks after disappearing from the top 10 after October 2020 and reappearing last month. She released her new album on April 24, 2020.

#8- Holy Smokes Future Jokes by Oregon-based Blitzen Trapper was released on September 25, 2020. Frontman Eric Earley used this EP to explore life and death and rebirth cycles in human existence, covering everything from a car wreck to the apocalypse in his lyrics.

#7- The New Abnormal by The Strokes disappeared from the ranks in September 2020 and reappeared again last month, cruising into 2021 with the rest of the repeat winners. This is the sixth studio album by the classic American rock band and was released on April 10, 2020.

#6- Soul Food: Cooking with Maceo has stuck around from 2020 and continues to fight for a spot on our VIP list in 2021. Funk legend Maceo Parker released this album on June 26, 2020.

#5- Rough and Rowdy Ways by Bob Dylan is also on a six-month winning streak at WDIY, but has dropped dramatically from last month’s second place. Dylan’s 39th album was released on June 19, 2020.

#4- XOXO by The Jayhawks has been playing non-stop in the top 10 list for six months! This album was released on July 10, 2020, and is their 11th album to date.

#3- The Land That Time Forgot is up from its fourth place ranking from December, and has been moving around on our list since November 2020. This album was released on May 15th, 2020 from California native Chuck Prophet.

#2- Saint Cloud by Waxahatchee has moved up yet another spot from last month, solidifying itself as one of our listeners’ current favorites.The fifth studio album by the American indie rock act released on March 27, 2020.

 

#1- Bruce Springsteen's Letter to You celebrates another month at the top of WDIY’s spin list! He dropped his 12th studio album on October 23, 2020.
