In the nineteenth century, American artists sought to capture the unique character of the North American landscape, from iconic landmarks to intimate countryside views. Drawing from the Allentown Art Museum’s permanent collection, this exhibition explores mountains, waterfalls, pastures, and wilderness scenes while also examining how these idealized landscapes can obscure ecological damage and colonial violence.

Kay WalkingStick / Hudson River School brings together works by contemporary Cherokee artist Kay Walking Stick with nineteenth-century Hudson River School paintings, creating a conversation about American landscape, identity, memory, and the land’s layered histories.

Drop-in to the Art Ways Interactive Family Gallery on the second floor of the Museum every Saturday and Sunday to make your own art to take home during ArtVentures. Museum educators are on hand to help guide you in creating an artwork inspired by the Museum’s collection. Design your own creation and bring it to life on one of our 3D printers. Across more than four decades, legendary drummer Simon Phillips has shown an uncanny ability to excel in most any musical environment. Precision, intensity and emotion are hallmarks of Simon’s sound in every setting. And working with many of the world’s most prominent musicians from an early age, he has repeatedly made his mark through scores of historic recordings and tours around the globe.

By his twenties Simon had already worked with iconic figures including Jeff Beck, Jack Bruce, Pete Townshend, Al Di Meola, Jon Anderson, Jan Hammer, Stanley Clarke, Mike Oldfield, Brian Eno, and others. High-profile recordings and tours were soon to come with the likes of Mick Jagger, Asia, The Who, and many more. But it was the untimely death of drummer Jeff Porcaro that led to Simon’s 21-year presence in Toto (1992-2014), highlighted by ten albums and numerous world tours.

Simon’s own compositions and group concept began to gel with the Protocol II album in 2013. There have since been three more Protocol albums, including a Grammy nomination in 2018 for Protocol IV in the ‘Best Contemporary Instrumental Album’ category, culminating with Protocol V in 2022, a high energy driven collection of tunes with that Simon Phillips signature we’ve come to expect from the Protocol legacy.

The band features longtime electric bassist Ernest Tibbs (Allan Holdsworth), veteran keyboardist Otmaro Ruiz (John McLaughlin), Jacob Scesney on saxophones, and the brilliant young Los Angeles guitarist, Alex Sill.

11-week in-person or virtual program provides information while addressing the needs of grandparents who are raising their grandchildren.

Pinebrook Family Answers (PbFA) popular Grandparents Group psychoeducational support program begins on Wednesday, February 19th and runs through April 30th. The one-hour classes begin at 11 am, open to the community, virtual or in person. The 11-week program provides support and resources for grandparents, non-custodial caregivers and guardians who are raising children. Topics include understanding legal terms and processes; refining parenting skills, understanding child-developmental stages and positive discipline; building relationships through effective communication skills, intrapersonal connections, and conflict resolution; helping kids process trauma; and much more.

In addition to the educational information provided, the goal of the group is to provide opportunities for members to connect with each other, lessen feelings of isolation and create community that can extend beyond our group setting.
