SATORI's 17th Annual Daniel Pearl World Music concert features music by Jan Koetsier, Arnold Bax, and Dvorak's "American" String Quartet, performed by Cheryl Bishkoff, oboe; Nora Suggs, flute; Rebecca Brown and Mary Ogletree, violins; Agnes Maurer, viola; and Marie-Aline Cadieux, cello.
This performance is part of Daniel Pearl World Music Days, an annual global concert network affirming the ideals of tolerance and shared humanity, and now including the participation of more than 13,900 performances in 140 countries. World Music Days is inspired by the life and work of journalist and musician Daniel Pearl, killed in Pakistan by terrorists, who would have celebrated his 63nd birthday on October 10th. Today we join people around the world in a tribute to the power of music to lift individuals of different backgrounds and beliefs above the differences that set them apart.
Two days before their performance at Carnegie Hall, revered American conductor Marin Alsop leads London's Philharmonia Orchestra in a program of symphonic staples. The concert begins with Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture, expressing an astonishing range of action and emotion across 20 minutes. Pianist Alexandre Kantorow, called an "exemplar of a new generation" after his 2023 Carnegie Hall debut (The New York Times), then performs the thrilling solo part in Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3. The program concludes with Bartók's riveting Concerto for Orchestra, aptly named for the soloistic spotlight it shines on each section of the ensemble.
