Words & Film Sunday Matinee @ EMPL Presents: "Sinners"
Words and Film Sunday Matinee @ EMPL continues with: “Sinners” on Sunday, October 5th, at 2pm at the Eastern Monroe Public Library.
"Sinners" is not directly based on a single true story, although heavily inspired by real-life events, cultural history, and personal experiences of writer/director, Ryan Coogler, who drew inspiration from his family's history, particularly stories his uncle shared about growing up in Mississippi. Blending fictional vampire narratives with the harsh realities of the Jim Crow South in the 1930s, “Sinners” also explores themes of memory, heritage, and the power of music, especially Delta blues.
Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back. The cast includes Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Miles Caton, Jayme Lawson, Omar Benson Miller and Delroy Lindo.
