Tap Talks: Barred Owls of Bear Swamp and Minsi Lake
Discover the fascinating world of Barred Owls and the wetlands they call home during this engaging evening with Jim Wilson of Friends of Minsi Lake. Learn how a unique conservation partnership—spanning local Boy Scouts, volunteers from Lehigh Valley Audubon Society and Friends of Minsi Lake, Northampton County Parks staff, and Hawk Mountain Sanctuary biologists—has been providing Barred Owls with nestboxes and monitoring their use across Bear Swamp and the Minsi Lake Greenway since 2020. Through stories of six owl families and the dedicated community behind them, you will gain insight into owl ecology, learn about other owl species of Pennsylvania, and discover how you can create, install, and maintain nestboxes to support these remarkable cavity-nesting birds.
