Kate Scuffle welcomes back Elaine Mehalakes from the Allentown Art Museum and Dr. Arthur Wheelock, former Curator at the National Gallery of Art, to talk about the return of the Rembrandt painting Portrait of a Young Womanto the Allentown Art Museum.
Elaine Mehalakes is Vice President of Curatorial Affairs for the Allentown Art Museum. Dr. Arthur Wheelock is former Curator of the Northern European Art Collection at the National Gallery of Art in Washingtown, D.C. He provides a deeper look at the art conservation process, and the work done on the Allentown Art Museum’s Rembrandt painting specifically.
Portrait of a Young Woman made national and international headlines last year when, after months of conservation, it was re-attributed to the Dutch Golden Age master painter, Rembrandt van Rijn. This meant the Allentown Art Museum had a genuine Rembrandt painting.
