WDIY's Power Increase

In June of 2014, we received approval from the Federal Communications Commission to triple the station's power by replacing the station's existing antenna and transmitter with more powerful equipment. The increase would expand the station's reach to an additional 135,000 people and help fulfill WDIY’s mission of fully reaching the entire Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas.

In early December of 2015, WDIY-88.1 FM began transmitting its signal strength at an FCC-approved 300 watts, tripling the power of its previous 100-watt signal and potentially reaching more than 135,000 new listeners around the periphery of the Lehigh Valley.

From Phillipsburg, N.J. in the east to Breinigsville in the west, Moorestown to the north and Coopersburg to the south and to points beyond, the diverse music and programming on WDIY is now readily available to more people than ever at 88.1 FM. The core areas of the Valley will hear us better, too. It’s all part of our commitment to serving the region with locally-produced content that meets the needs of our residents.”

The celebration of the station’s 20th anniversary culminates with the signal strength upgrade.

Realizing the largest expansion of our listener base during the celebration of our second decade is especially rewarding. While many media outlets are cutting back, we are redoubling our efforts to grow our station to reach more people than ever before.

Let’s have some fun!

As you drive around the Lehigh Valley, please do not hesitate to report any listening impressions back to me. Better yet, I would like to ask you to take a picture or selfie while listening to the station at home, in your car (while stationary, of course) or elsewhere in the region during the month of December and January and post it with the hashtag #wdiyhasthepower to Facebook or Twitter, or e-mail it to info@wdiy.org. You will be entered for the chance to win tickets to upcoming shows in the Lehigh Valley and we will be able to show the reach of our new broadcast coverage area. We are looking for pics/selfies of specific landmarks, street names, street crossings, etc.

This is a game-changing moment for WDIY and it is truly a great reason to celebrate. I hope you share our enthusiasm. From all of us here at the station, thank you for supporting WDIY.

Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones!
