Ian Boddy’s 2016 "Tone Science" solo album was comprised of long, slowly evolving, self playing compositions realized entirely on modular synthesizers. Inspired by this album, Boddy created the Tone Science sub-label of DiN Records to feature artists working in the field of modular synthesis.
Having all but disappeared in the 1990s, modular synthesizers have seen an unprecedented growth in interest recently with a proliferation of both manufacturers and performers using these highly flexible and personal systems. Boddy has curated both the artists and tracks on these albums to flow in a musical way. Enjoy this month's Special Focus on Tone Science.
