“Promise Land”, a mysterious carnival, has just arrived in town, proclaiming that it has the ability to take you inside of America’s dreams. Join us for a theatrical adventure set at an aging, Dust Bowl-era carnival. You and fellow attendees will be able to travel through interactive exhibits, like a fortune teller’s séance room, an inventor’s showcase, and even take your own classic American road trip! However, everything may not be as it seems, so keep your eyes open and your head down. And, perhaps, if you are lucky, you might just find the answer you are looking for, but will you want to hear it?

America Dreams is an interactive, site-specific performance presented as part of the LV250 celebration. Set within a whimsical, defunct carnival landscape, the work invites audiences to journey together through a series of five immersive “attractions,” each exploring a different facet of American identity.

Rather than offering answers, America Dreams asks vital questions about what it means to be an American in this day and age: How do we remember our past? How do we imagine our future? What happens when our stories, landscapes, and values are packaged and sold? When do our myths inspire us — and when do they mislead us? And how quickly do we divide ourselves into “us” and “them”?

Through music, image, play, and collective participation, audiences are encouraged to see themselves in one another, to recognize shared hopes, and to imagine new possibilities for how we might move this beautiful country of ours forward, together. America Dreams aims to use the power of live performance to foster connection, curiosity, and a renewed sense of belonging in the Lehigh Valley.
