35th Annual Boscov's Berks Jazz Fest: Signature Cruise Experiences — Marcus Miller and Friends
Marcus Miller is considered one of the most influential artists of our time.
And he is one of the busiest artists, which is why the Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest is pleased the electric bassist is producing a special concert for the 35th anniversary fest.
Marcus and his incredible band will be joined by three very special “friends” -- saxophonists Eric Marienthal and Ravi Coltrane, and vibraphonist Warren Wolf for the concert presented by Signature Cruise Experiences.
Anyone who experiences a Marcus Miller live concert knows that they are in for quite an experience. His powerful, jazz/funk bass playing is out in full force -- pushing boundaries and taking jazz to new levels.
Marcus, along with his incredible band and his special guests, will be sure to excite, challenge, and transport the Berks audience.
At the top of his game for over 30 years, Marcus has had a rich and very deep resume of outstanding collaborations -- Luther Vandross, David Sanborn, Roberta Flack, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Al Jarreau, Bob James, Lalah Hathaway, Wayne Shorter, and, of course, Miles Davis.
After touring in Miles Davis’ band in the early 1980s, Marcus developed a close professional and personal relationship with Davis, which led to his collaboration on three critically acclaimed albums. The most famous was the ground-breaking album and title song Tutu.
The album and title song, which Marcus composed, produced, arranged, and performed on, is widely regarded as a significant addition to the canon of contemporary jazz music. Not only did the album win two Grammy awards, it is considered to be one of the definitive Miles Davis albums of our time.
Eric Marienthal, performing numerous times during the fest, is a Grammy Award-winning and 10-time nominated jazz saxophonist, composer, and educator known for his work in the jazz, jazz fusion, smooth jazz, and pop genres. He is a prominent figure in the music world, recognized for his technical proficiency and soulful sound. He was a member of the Chick Corea Elektric Band, recording six alums and winning two Grammy Awards.
Ravi Coltrane is a critically acclaimed, Grammy-nominated saxophonist, bandleader, and composer. He is the second son of jazz icons John Coltrane and Alice Coltrane and has established a distinct, innovative musical path over a 20-plus-year career.
Despite his family legacy, Ravi, making his first Berks appearance, has built a reputation on a thoughtful and modern approach to improvisation, blending elegance and fire while avoiding merely copying the styles of those who came before him. His personal style is considered post-bop, distinct from his father's bebop roots.
Warren Wolf is an acclaimed jazz vibraphonist and multi-instrumentalist from Baltimore.
Warren began studying music at age three, learning vibraphone, marimba, drums, and piano. He attended the Peabody Preparatory and the Baltimore School for the Arts before graduating from the Berklee College of Music in 2001, where he studied with Dave Samuels.
He is an active international touring musician who has performed with luminaries such as Christian McBride & Inside Straight, the SFJAZZ Collective, and Bobby Watson's Live and Learn Sextet.
Warren, who recently released his latest CD History of the Vibraphone, is a respected educator, holding faculty positions at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
