Charlotte Blake Alston: Wade in the Water

February is Black History month. My favor black teller is Charlotte Blake Alston. It is high time I put her voice on this show.

Charlotte is a storyteller, narrator, librettist, instrumentalist and singer who performs throughout North America and abroad, in places such as the John F. Kennedy Center, the Smithsonian Institution, and the Kimmel Center. Also, the Women of the World Festival in Cape Town, South Africa, and a refugee camp in northern Senegal are among the places she has been.

A few of her awards include the prestigious Pew Fellowship in the Arts, Philadelphia Magazine's "Best of Philly" (yes, she is from Philadelphia), and the Circle of Excellence Award from the National Storytelling Association.

Charlotte breathes life into traditional stories from African and African American oral traditions. What follows is the start of her CD, Wadin’ In The Water. Enjoy.

That was Charlotte Blake Alston.

The Children’s Winter Series at Godfrey Daniels is almost over, but you still have time to hear Ingrid Bohn on Sunday, March 2nd, and Kristin Pedemonti on Sunday, March 16th. Both shows at 2:00pm. Cops & Kids will be there handing out free books.

The Lehigh Valley Storytelling Guild holds its Storytelling Circle at Godfrey Daniels at 7 East 4th Street in Bethlehem on the second Wednesdays of the month at 7:30 pm (except the month of August). Come and listen to stories or try out a story yourself. We are a friendly audience and the event is free.

Well, that’s all for now, have fun, and keep a story in your heart.
