Many Americans dream of owning a home as a way to build wealth and give their families a leg up for generations. But there can be a lot of systemic barriers to homeownership, particularly if a person does not make a lot of money and is Black or Latino.
A rent-to-own program in Central Pennsylvania promised to help tenants overcome those barriers. But as WHYY Keystone Crossroads’ Laura Benshoff reports, red tape and bad communication threaten their dreams of homeownership.
