John Pearce talks about the impact of history by welcoming three local students; 8th grader Eden Sendef along with 9th graders Matt Keenan and Sophie Elijovich who share their summer submissions for the National History Day Theme Contests for 2021 — Communication in History: The Key to Understanding and 2022 — Debate and Diplomacy.

Their individual submissions explore The Silk Road (Matt Keenan), History of U.S. Presidential Debates (Eden Sendef), and The Cuban Missile Crisis (Sophie Elijovich).

Tune in to Lehigh Valley Discourse Thursdays from 6:00 to 7:00 PM following All Things Considered.

From the age of 9, John had his sights set on a career in broadcasting. But instead, he wound up teaching French and Spanish at Muhlenberg College for 40 years. Now, in retirement, John gets to call the mic and earphones his buddies at our studios in eclectic South Bethlehem. His signoff: "Remember to be gentle with your neighbor."
