In Memory of Bob Cohen

Bob Cohen, one of WDIY’s most dedicated volunteers, has passed. Bob served on WDIY’s Board of Directors from 1993-2004, the last two years as Board President.

Few people know it, but Bob was instrumental in organizing our original team of Classical Music programmers. When we were planning our program schedule before WDIY went on the air in 1995, we hoped to feature a morning show devoted to Classical Music, but didn’t have anyone to host the programs. So Bob arranged a meeting with all the top people from the local Classical Music community - the heads of orchestras, choral groups and college music. They were thrilled with what was being proposed and recommended a dozen or so people who might be interested in volunteering. Based on their suggestions, we were able to put together a schedule of six morning Classical Music programs.

Bob, who continued to host shows on a fill-in basis, was one of the last of the “Class of ’95.” All of us at WDIY will miss him dearly. A celebration of Bob’s life is expected to be held sometime in March.
