Dovie Thomason: Turtle Learns to Fly

In the Native American tradition, the cold weather is a time for telling stories. In the good weather you should be hunting, growing food, and preparing them for winter. But as the temperatures drop, it is a time to draw closer to the fire and hear stories. Dovie Thomason is a Native American teller of international fame. You may well have heard her voice on NPR, PBS, and the BBC. She has told her stories from New England to New Zealand. I have chosen a story from her latest CD, “Voices of the Animal People.” The tale is called Turtle Learns to Fly. At the end of the story is some music sung by the group Oh La Le.

This is Dovie Thomason

The Lehigh Valley Storytelling Guild holds itsStorytelling Circle at Godfrey Daniels at 7 East 4th Street in Bethlehem on the second Wednesdays of the month at 7:30 pm (except the month of August). Come and listen to stories or try out a story yourself. We are a friendly audience and the event is free.

That’s all for now, have fun and keep a story in your heart.
