Transistor radios were a revolutionary step forward in radio technology.

The transition from tubes to transistors revolutionized radio by reducing the size of the receiver and energy consumption needed to fuel a broadcast. It helped create a youth market not paralleled since the golden age of top 40 radio from the mid  1950s to 1970s. Neil Hever explores the rise of this new technology.
