Philly DA's Office Seeking to Address Gun-Related Cases, but Protecting Witnesses Remains an Issue

Philly anti-violence activists say that crime witnesses need more help.

In Philadelphia, the conviction rate for certain gun-related crimes is decidedly low. The list includes illegal gun possession and non-fatal shootings, a category of crime that spiked last year, making it one of the most violent on record.

The District Attorney’s Office wants to change that, but there’s a longstanding obstacle: protecting witnesses so they feel safe to testify. WHYY’s Aaron Moselle reports.
