In Memory of WDIY Volunteer Martin Boksenbaum

Martin Boksenbaum

We remember valued WDIY volunteer and friend Martin Boksenbaum who passed away peacefully in his home on August 7, 2019.
Martin was a lover of classical music and served as WDIY's classical music librarian, taking over the role from his life partner Janet Goloub who passed away in 2015.

Martin held a PhD in Anthropology and spent his first career in education. Some highlights include teaching science at William Allen High School in Allentown as well as teaching anthropology/sociology at Queens College in New York City, Northampton Community College in Bethlehem, and DeSales University in Center Valley.

His second career was in community activism. He was a founding member of the Alliance for Sustainable Communities-Lehigh Valley, focusing on connections between a self-sustaining local economy, grass-roots democracy, local sustainable agriculture, food, nutrition, and health. In 2014, he appeared as a guest on WDIY's Living Green in the Lehigh Valley discussing the Earth Day celebrations happening in the Lehigh Valley which were covered in the organization's annual publication Sustainable Lehigh Valley/Directory.

Martin was also a founder and Chapter Leader of the Weston A. Price Foundation-LV. He was active with the Americas Solidarity Group of the LEPOCO Peace Center, Lehigh Valley Greens, and the Bertsch-Hokendauqua-Catasauqua Watershed Association. Martin further served as a Board member, Board president, and newsletter editor for the Lehigh Valley Arts Council.

He will be greatly missed. You can view his obituary here.
