Community of License: Allentown, PA

Reporting Period: April 1, 2010 - March 31, 2011

No. of Full-time Employees: 5 - 10
Small Market Exemption: No

During the Reporting Period, a total of one full time position was filled. The information required by FCC Rule 73.2080(c)(6) is provided in the charts that follow.

INITIATIVES

The employment unit engaged in the following broad outreach initiatives in accordance with various elements of FCC Rule 73.2080(c)(2):

Established an internship program designed to assist members of the community to acquire skills needed for broadcast employment. Maintained an internship program designed to assist college-level members of the community to acquire skills needed for multiple facets of broadcasting and future broadcast employment. The WDIY College Internship Program gives students real career experience in broadcasting, both on the content side and on the engineering side. A number of graduates of this program have progressed on to become broadcast professionals at a number of different stations. We had six interns during this reporting period, two from Moravian College, one from Lafayette College, one from Hofstra University, one from Indiana Univ. of Pennsylvania, and one from Kutztown University. We also provided a community service internship to a student about to graduate from Moravian Academy. Students meeting their college requirements (typically 120 hours per semester) receive college credit for their work.

Participated in job banks, internet programs, and other programs designed to promote outreach generally (i.e., that are not primarily directed to providing notification of specific job vacancies).

WDIY established and maintains an Internet presence with our own website, through which our radio programming also is streamed, and with both MySpace and Facebook pages. The website and these pages include information about all of WDIY's Culture Calendar series, the Youth Media calendar produced by the Youth Media students, our Program Highlights weekly communication covering our upcoming public and cultural affairs programming and studio interviews and performances, and our EWaves newsletter. The pages also contain information regarding employment opportunities when these opportunities exist.

We also provided a Youth Media training program for high-school level students to be trained in and gain practical, hands-on experience in various radio reporting, interviewing, production and broadcast skills. We had twelve students participating in the Youth Media program.

Listed each upper-level category opening in a job bank or newsletter of media trade groups whose membership includes substantial participation of women and minorities. The one such opening filled within this period was listed on:
" CPB Jobline (online);
" NPR member stations electronic communication, the Public Radio listserve, available to public radio professionals
" Public Radio Development Officers listserve
" Development Exchange Inc. online joblisting
" Pennsylvania Association of Non-Profits online

Participated in other activities designed by the station employment unit reasonably calculated to further the goal of disseminating information as to employment opportunities in broadcasting to job candidates who might otherwise be unaware of such opportunities. Maintained a broadcast training program designed to teach a broad spectrum of members of the community to acquire skills needed for radio program production and presentation. During this reporting period, we trained and certified fifteen new community volunteer on-air program hosts. Of the fifteen trainees, eight are women, three are minorities, and one is disabled.
