President Obama's acceptance of the Democratic nomination capped two weeks of speeches at the political conventions. The Labor Department reported that the economy added 96,000 jobs in August, far fewer than analysts had predicted. The unemployment rate fell from 8.3 percent to 8.1 percent, an indication that more people moved out of the workforce.
